Priority 1 · Social Coordination Architecture

From Endless Group Chats to Confirmed Outing Plans

Availability voting is not an attendance commitment. PlanLock separates private preference polling from explicit, versioned confirmation—guaranteeing minimum attendance thresholds before locking your group calendar.

Interactive Outing & Commitment Simulator

Walk through the entire 3-step decision flow: private voting, host selection, and explicit commitment.

Step 1
Private Availability Poll
Step 2
Host Option Selection
Step 3
Versioned Confirmation & Lock

🗳️ Friends vote privately on up to 5 options. Votes are strictly aggregated—organizers never see who rejected a venue. Equal scores are visibly tied.

Engineering Invariants for Social Coordination

Built on the strict mathematical foundation of Section 4 and 5 of the PlanLock specification.

🗳️

Poll vs Commitment Separation

An availability vote is merely a preference; it is not an RSVP. Separating voting from versioned confirmation stops polite "maybe" flakes before reservations are made.

⚖️

Deterministic Tie Preservation

Options are sorted strictly by Yes count desc, then Maybe count desc. Ties are visibly highlighted as ties with stable option IDs, never falsely crowning an arbitrary winner.

🛡️

409 Material Invalidation Guard

Any alteration to time, date, or location generates a new immutable plan version. Previous confirmations are wiped; votes never silently transfer to changed plans.

📅

RFC 5545 Calendar Generator

Export clean, native .ics files with stable UIDs ([email protected]). Revisions automatically increment sequence numbers.

🚨

Post-Lock Decline Protection

If a confirmed member drops out after the plan is locked, PlanLock flags needs_reconfirmation and notifies the host immediately without cancelling bookings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers on privacy, voting algorithms, and calendar compatibility.

Why not just use a WhatsApp or Telegram poll?

Chat polls encourage polite "yes/maybe" answers from people who never actually intend to show up. They provide no way to select a final option, enforce a minimum attendance threshold, or download a reliable calendar invite. PlanLock solves the execution gap.

What happens if someone declines after the plan is locked?

If a confirmed participant drops out after the lock, PlanLock immediately marks the plan with the needs_reconfirmation flag and alerts the host with a single deduplicated notice. It does not automatically cancel third-party reservations you made outside the app.

What is the 409 PLAN_CHANGED guard?

If the host modifies the date, time, or location of an outing, PlanLock automatically increments the version (e.g. from v1 to v2) and wipes all previous confirmations. Any attempt to confirm against stale details returns a 409 error with the new venue information.

Are individual votes public to the group?

No. Votes are strictly private. The app displays aggregate yes, maybe, and no counts to prevent social pressure or hurt feelings when someone rejects a proposed venue.
